A Triumph Indeed

J.Brunhoff | October 9, 2009

Triumph Chopper

As I am working away on my modern vintage Triumph Thruxton cafe bike I have become a bit obsessed with Triumph choppers. The example above and below belongs to Rob Howe in southern California, and I just about the prettiest damn thing I can imagine. It started life as a ‘65 Triumph Trophy and now it is a bad ass chopper so stripped down it almost looks like a bicycle.

I am officially obsessed and am trolling ebay for a pre-kit Triumph motor as we speak. Time to make a proper vintage bike for me.

Military Grade Man Bags

J.Brunhoff | April 6, 2009

Kill Spencer Duffle

In the last few years military influence has been seen in all areas of fashion. Kill Spencer is a new line of mens’ bags that is serious enough to move beyond military cliche and uses battle tested materials that actually deliver on that military cache’. LA Based designer Spencer Nikosey uses clean modern lines and constructs them with repurposed treated canvas used in the Korean War. The hardware consists of black anodized steel buckles and snaps and looks like it will withstand just about anything that gets thrown at it.

Artist you should know; Nathan Ota

J.Brunhoff | August 5, 2008

Nathan Ota

Nathan Ota is another fine example of a graffiti artist who has made good on his artisitc talent. Ota graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 1993 and has been illustrating, painting, and teaching ever since. I for one think his work is amazing.

Look for his up and coming show at La Luz de Jesus gallery in October.

audigier

French designer Christian Audigier, has quite the resume, this no one will deny. His rap sheet includes Diesel, Levis, and both the Ed Hardy and Von Dutch brands. The man is a marketing genius, but so was the guy that convinced idiots to buy pet rocks or the heathens who devised boho chic, goddamn hippies. He has kissed the cheek of true masters and in turn sold their souls to the slackjawed holywoodnistas crowned in bejeweled trucker craps. Now his ego truly knows no bounds announcing his plans to collaborate with eighties legends the Eurythmics and possibly developing a line with the King Of Pop. St. Michael defend us in battle against the wickedness and snares of this goon. Don’t get me wrong though, Audigier has kept leagues of frat boys, strippers and ultimate fighters, easily recognizable making it possible for the masses to ridicule and avoid. Duck and cover friends.

Does a $25,000 Watch make you a Douche Bag?

fasterstill | July 29, 2008

Jay Mohr

There is a great interview with Jay Mohr where talks about the best item he owns being his gold Rolex. He says he loves it  because when you are wearing a Rolex you can still get into a strip club even if you are wearing a sweat suit. While I think Jay is pretty funny this comment wreaks of the Douche-ness that comes from most dudes who own an expensive watch. For many It is a way to flash some cash and to speak a language that all gold digging broads understand.

While I am no horologist I have read enough to understand why some exceptional timepieces command astronomical asking prices. One such company that flys under the radars of your average rich douche bag is A. Lange & Söhne .

Banksy, Art Superhero Unmasked

J.Brunhoff | July 28, 2008

Banksy Ballon

With a new comic book blockbusters coming out every six months it is clear that people are longing for superheros. In todays society we face a variety of villains from terrorists waging jihad, to imperialist countries conducting wars for oil, from Coporate villains profiting from the docile middle class, to our President who has vilified everything from the constitiution to common sense during his 8 year reign. Luckily we have a superhero among us in the form of the infamous "guerilla artist" Banksy .

Banksy has made a career as an artist using both superhero cunning and superhero anonymity. His graffiti career began around 1994 and as his works started gaining attention in the early 2000’s it only served to fueled his daring. Some of Banksy’s capers include painting giant murals on the wall of the west bank separating Israel and Palestine, leaving a manequin dressed as a Guantanamo Prisoner at Disney World, and hanging his own art in both the Tate and the Louvre.
